ReplyDeleteWish I could say I were that clever. I didn't even get it until Monna pointed it out to me. "Cartel", in Spanish, means poster. The wall just says "post no bills". We talk a lot about what gets lost in translation, but equally interesting is what gets added.
ReplyDeleteContext (above): The old town of Valencia, Spain is a broke-down palace of a place held together by layers of ancient posters. This wall, however, boldly declared its poster-independence. I liked the texture and the light.
